Box Score NORFOLK, VA — The Spartans of Norfolk State University got 17 points from Chris McEachin and a double-double from MEAC Preseason Player of the Year Kyle O'Quinn in a 63-43 defeat of the Randolph College men's basketball team in action from Echols Arena Wednesday evening.
Randolph (0-2) hung around with their Division I counterparts for a half of basketball, trailing by only three at 10-7 after a lay-up by Derrick Woods-Morrow (Greensboro, NC/NE Guilford). The Spartans would finish the first half on an 18-1 run though, taking a 35-12 lead into the break.
The WildCats outscored Norfolk State in the second half, as Woods-Morrow scored eight of his team-best 10 points in the second half. Randolph got as close as 16 points midway through the second half, but could not inch any closer.
Senior Julius Thomas (Chesapeake, VA/Stonebridge) scored nine points to go with six rebounds, while first-year Zach Desgain (Richmond, VA/J.R. Tucker) also added nine points. Junior Dylan Shiflett (Virginia Beach, VA/Ocean Lakes) had five points and six boards for Randolph, which shot 37 percent (17-46) from the floor.
McEachin posted his game-high on 6-of-13 shooting, nailing five shot from downtown. O'Quinn scored 12 points and corralled 13 boards, and Pendarvis Williams had 10 points and five boards in the victory. NSU (1-1) only shot 39.4 percent from the floor, but took 20 more field goals than the WildCats and won the turnover battle 22-12.
The WildCats will get a day off before heading to Front Royal, VA to take on Christendom College Friday afternoon at 5:30 p.m. in more non-conference play.
