LYNCHBURG, VA – The Randolph College volleyball team finished its 2011 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) slate Wednesday evening, falling at Lynchburg College 3-0 in action from Turner Gym. The Hornets won with scores of 25-18, 25-14, and 25-17.
In the first set, Lynchburg (16-9/7-3 ODAC) used an early 5-0 run to pull away for the victory. In game two with the score 14-10 in favor of the hosts, Lynchburg chalked up an eight-point spurt to lift it to the victory. Game three saw the Hornets run out to a big lead early, cruising to the match victory.
Randolph (11-13/2-8 ODAC) finished the match with a season-low 20 kills, led by the five from first-year middle Shana Nelson (Columbia, MD/Wilde Lake) . The WildCats got four kills from Jordan Templin (Ferrum, VA/Franklin Co.) , while Sam Sublett (Bedford, VA/Staunton River) and Grayce Darden (Martinsville, VA/Martinsville) each had three.
First-year setter Kerry McMichael (Westminster, SC/West Oak) had 12 assists on the night, which put her into eighth place on the single-season assists list at the College. She passed 2011 graduate Caroline English's 2008 season total of 634 helpers.
The Hornets were paced by Rebecca Loftis, who finished with 11 kills and five total blocks. Rachel Huffman posted 10 kills on her Senior Night, while Elena Kritter had eight kills and 12 digs in her last home regular season match at LC. Rachel Turk and Brooke Moughon combined for 38 assists.
The WildCats will finish their season this weekend with a trip to Maryville, TN to take on host Maryville College and also Covenant College at noon and 2 p.m. Saturday afternoon.
