Pennington will lend his expertise as a USATF-certified coach in the throws with four years experience coaching at Warwick High School in Newport News, Virginia where he grew the throwing program there to 27 athletes and several VHSL 5A state finalists.

As a collegiate athlete, Pennington competed for the Captains at Christopher Newport University where he was earned numerous All-Conference honors, was nationally ranked in Division III, and held the school records in the men's weight throw and hammer.
