In each of the last three academic years the program has earned the United Soccer Coaches Academic Award which recognizes programs at all levels of NCAA soccer that have attained a team cumulative GPA of above a 3.0. These awards are the first in program history.

Godwin assumed his duties as the second head coach in the history of the men's soccer program on March 19, 2018, bringing with him 15 years of NCAA college athletics experience as a student-athlete, coach, and administrator. During his career, Godwin has won 8 conference titles, been to the NCAA post-season 3 times, and seen his student-athletes win 106 post-season awards.

Godwin is no stranger to the Lynchburg area. He is a 2005 graduate of Liberty University with a Bachelor of Science degree in sport management. The Hereford, England native was a four-year member of the Liberty Flames men's soccer team, helping them to the Big South Conference championship match in 2001. Godwin served as a team captain and earned Big South First Team All-Conference and VaSID Second Team All-State honors his senior year while also serving at the president of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. His outstanding senior year did not go unnoticed, and Godwin was invited to tryout for Great Britain’s U23 National Team, which went on to compete at the 2006 World University Games, and Cheltenham Town Football Club of England’s Football League One. Upon returning to the US, Godwin spent time playing with Augusta United of the Premier Development League and the Atlanta Silverbacks Reserve team before beginning his coaching career with the storied Atlanta Fire Soccer Club in 2006.

Godwin began his collegiate coaching career at his alma mater, serving as an assistant coach with Liberty's women's soccer program for two years (2006-07). In his duties, he was responsible for day-to-day operations of the program, recruiting, supporting the academic and compliance staff and fundraising through the Flames Club. He was responsible for recruiting the top ranked recruiting class in 2008 among Big South programs as named by SoccerBuzz.com. He helped the program achieve an APR score that ranked within the top five percent of all NCAA women's soccer programs and coached 19 all-conference selections, including the Big South Scholar-Athlete of the Year.

Godwin then switched codes, and took up a role within Liberty’s football program as the Assistant Director of Operations & Recruiting where he spent five years. Working closely with the coaching staff across all areas of recruiting and assisting in the day-to-day operations of the program, Godwin assisted in winning four Big South Conference titles (2008, 2009, 2010, 2012) during his time on Danny Rocco and Turner Gill’s staffs.

Godwin returned to the soccer sidelines in 2013 when he re-joined the Liberty Women’s Soccer staff as an assistant coach. Over the course of the next three season, Godwin helped to produce the most successful period in the history of the program. Winning four conference titles, breaking numerous program records including most-wins in a season, twice taking the Flames to the NCAA post-season, and elevating the program’s national ranking from #167 to #56, Godwin saw 40 student-athletes earn post-season accolades as well as producing the first three players in program history to turn professional.

In 2016, Godwin joined the University of Lynchburg Women’s Soccer program as an assistant coach and helped the Hornets to a second round appearance in the NCAA Tournament following a 15-3-3 season which saw the program ranked inside the top-25 for much of the year. 16 student-athletes earned post-season awards, including one All-American.

In 2017, Godwin returned once again to Liberty to serve at the University’s first ever Director of Alumni Relations for Athletics where he was responsible for serving 5,500 former student-athletes. He helped the Flames Club to reach both record membership and record contributions before accepting the position as the head coach of the Randolph College men’s soccer program.

Godwin holds the United Soccer Coaches Premier Diploma and was awarded his UEFA C license from the Wales Football Association in March of 2022.
