Men's T&F Honors Seniors with Record-Setting Performances

LYNCHBURG, Va. - The Randolph College men's track and field team hosted its annual WildCat Invitational on Saturday at WildCat Stadium. The team also recognized their three graduating seniors, Mario Carter, Kyle Kurtz, and Jayden Watkins.

On Friday, the javelin took place over at Liberty University in which Xavier White threw a 35.95-meter mark (117-11) for eighth place and Julio Alvarenga put down a mark of 31.41 meters (103-00). White took third in the discus with a mark of 41.70 meters (136-09) for a school record and Alvarenga placed eighth with a mark of 33.79 meters (110-10)

The team opened the meet with the 4x100 relay in which Xavier Calloway, Kyron Gault, Savion Thomas, and Ja'mar Smith took third overall with a time of 42.27.

In the 110m hurdles, Ethan Fisher led the way with 15.53 for second place, and he also took third in the 400m hurdles with a time of 59.06. Johan Arends followed in third with a time of 16.06, and rounding out the field was Carter in 16.18.

On the straightaway, Jeff Mendscole clocked a 10.90 in the 100m dash for third place. Smith came through in eighth with an 11.18, Thomas set a personal best in 11.23 in ninth, and James McLean followed in 10th with a personal best of 11.27. Calloway set a personal best of 11.30, Kurtz ran a season best in 11.37, Gault came through with a personal best of 11.39, and Christopher Wills finished in 11.56.

Edward Koroma led the team in the 1500m run with a personal best of 4:20.73, and Mason Williams crossed the finish line in a season-best time of 4:48.00.

White and Alvarenga also competed in the shot put, with Alvarenga throwing a personal best of 12.32 meters (40-05) for sixth place and White throwing a season best of 12.17 meters (39-11.25) for eighth place. White captured first place in the hammer throw with a best mark of 46.11 meters (151-03) and a school record, and Alvarenga threw 29.68 meters (97-04).

Smith took first place in the long jump, jumping a mark of 6.69 meters (21-11.50). Gault came in third with a jump of 6.52 meters (21-04.75), Thomas took fourth in 6.45 meters (21-02), and Calloway jumped into fifth with a season best of 6.36 meters (20-10.50). Ashton Jackson rounded out the field with an eighth-place jump of 6.10 meters (20-00.25).

Around the track, Christian Humes took first place in the 400m dash with a time of 49.39. Kurtz followed in fourth with a personal best time of 51.08. Landon Petcher ran a personal best of 52.08 for eighth place, and Jacob Johnson set a personal best of 53.10. Benjamin Bublitz came through at 54.77, and Ariel Huseni ran 56.35.

In the 200m dash, Leander Jackson clocked a time of 22.54 for second place, and Mendscole was close behind with a personal best of 22.56 in third place. McLean also ran a personal best of 22.64 for eighth place. Kurtz came through with a 22.77, Humes in 22.87, Landon Petcher in 23.38, Wills in 23.50, and Bublitz in 23.91.

In the pole vault, Watkins cleared 4.40 meters (14-05.25) to tie for third place. Peyton Jackson took ninth in a height of 3.65 meters (11-11.75), and Noah Williams soared to a personal best of 3.05 meters (10-00). 

In the triple jump, Thomas leaped to a personal best mark of 13.72 meters (45-00.25) and currently sits 75th in the nation. A. Jackson followed suit with a personal best of 13.38 meters (43-10.75). Smith took fourth place in 12.93 meters (42-05.25) and Carter was right behind in fifth with 12.30 meters (40-04.25).

Wrapping up the meet was the 4x400 meter relay, where J. Johnson, Bublitz, Huseni, and Koroma took first place in 3:41.33.
