Records Fall, Men's Track & Field Impresses at Dennis Craddock Invite

LYNCHBURG, Va. - The Randolph College men's track and field team made the short trip over to the University of Lynchburg to compete at the Dennis Craddock Invitational on Friday and Saturday. The meet was highlighted by two school records and several personal bests across the two days.

Xavier White got the WildCats started with a new school record in the hammer throw. He threw a mark of 45.49 meters (149-03) to place sixth overall in the field. Also in the field, Ja'mar Smith placed second overall in the long jump with a 6.90-meter mark (22-07.75) for a new school record outdoors and is currently ranked 32nd in the nation. Ethan Fisher, in the 400m hurdles, took about two seconds off the school record with a time of 56.81.

In the 100m dash, Smith led the way with a 10.99 personal best for sixth place. Jeff Mendscole was behind in 11.36 and Savion Thomas ran a personal best of 11.36.

Fisher ran a personal best in the 110m hurdles with a time of 15.45 to place sixth. Smith was right behind in seventh in 15.51 for a personal best. Johan Arends came in at ninth in 15.75 with a personal best as well and Mario Carter rounded out the field with a 16.74.

The 400m dash saw four WildCats run personal bests. Christian Humes crossed the line in 48.84, personal best to take fourth place overall and is currently ranked 59th in the country. Emir Jackson was close behind in 48.93 (fifth-place) for a personal best and is currently ranked 68th in the country. Landon Petcher clocked a 52.29 for a personal best performance as well as Benjamin Bublitz coming in at 53.02 for a personal best. Jacob Johnson also competed and came through in 53.69.

Humes led the way for the WildCats in the 200m dash with a tenth place finish in 22.57. Mendscole came across the line in 22.74, E. Jackson came in at 22.85, and Christopher Wills stopped the clock at 23.22.

The distance crew saw competitors in the 1500m and the 5000m. Edward Koroma ran a personal best of 4:26.59 in the 1500m and Mason Williams finished in 18:05.41 in the 5000m. Koroma also set a personal best in the 800m run in 2:07.58 and Ariel Huseni also set a personal best in 2:08.03.

White also competed in the discus throw and placed eighth with a toss of 39.75 meters (130-05) and teammate Julio Alvarenga put down a mark of 35.12 meters (115-02) as he also threw a personal best mark in the hammer throw of 30.25 meters (99-03). Alvarenga saw action in the javelin throw and soared to a mark of 31.81 meters (104-04).

White tossed a season-best of 11.83 meters (39-09.75) and Alvarenga was right behind with 11.55 meters (37-10.75) in the shot put.

Other competitors of the long jump included Kyron Gault, who placed seventh, with a leap of 6.65 meters (21-10.00). Thomas came in at a mark of 6.27 meters (20-07.00), and Xavier Calloway and Ashton Jackson both jumped 6.18 meters (20-03.50).

Thomas took third place in the triple with a jump of 13.70 meters (44-11.50) and Smith took ninth place with a mark of 13.08 meters (42-11.00). A. Jackson placed tenth with a mark of 13.01 meters (42-08.25), Carter jumped 12.67 meters (41-07.00) and Calloway jumped 11.71 meters (38-05.00).

Jayden Watkins cleared a height of 4.55 meters (14-11.00) in the pole vault for fifth place and Peyton Jackson cleared 3.65 meters (11-11.75).

The relays saw solid performances. The 4x100 relay team of Mendscole, Jahlil Weekes, Thomas, and Smith ran a season best, and currently ranked 41st nationally, with a time of 41.82 to place third overall. The 4x400 relay team of Bublitz, E. Jackson, Petcher, and Humes finished fourth overall in 3.24.10, which is currently ranked 55th in the country.

The WildCats return to WildCat Stadium to host their annual WildCat Invitational on Saturday and to recognize their graduating class.
