HILTON HEAD, S.C.- The Randolph men's tennis team faced the University of Rochester in the first match of their Spring Break trip. The match started on Sunday but was halted because of rain with play resuming on Monday morning. The WildCats were able to come away with a big 4-3 victory over the Yellow Jackets who received votes in the latest ITA Division III National Team Rankings.
Randolph fell behind 1-0 after the conclusion of doubles play. Jason Duval (Kingston, Jamaica) and Aksel Tinnes-Rimehaug (Oslo, Norway) did defeat the pair of Surya Rajamani and Liam Rieger 7-5 at third doubles.
In the singles portion, Jacob Martin (Wadebridge Cornwall, Great Britain/Callywith College) was a 6-1, 6-2 winner over Andy Liu at first singles. Andreas Mulner (Brasnov, Romania) was a 6-1, 7-5 winner over Aiden Swartz at second singles. Vincenzo Marchese took down Tony Xu 6-0, 6-2 at third singles. Rochester claimed wins at fourth and fifth singles. The match came down to sixth singles between Carlos Haupt (Weston, Fla./FLVS) and Leo Umansky. Haupt won 6-3, 6-3 to clinch the match for the WildCats.
Randolph will next face Greenville University on Thursday. Match time is at 1:00 p.m.
