LYNCHBURG, Va. - The Randolph College men's track & field team delivered a well-rounded performance at the Dr. Jack M Toms Alumni Invitational hosted by the University of Lynchburg. The meet was highlighted by a first-place finish in the long jump from
Savion Thomas, recording a mark of 6.46m (21-02.50) and a third-place finish in the 4x100m relay of 42.72 that included
Jeff Mendscole,
James McLean,
Leander Jackson, and
Ja'mar Smith.
In the 100m prelims, McLean led the way in 11.30. He was closely followed by Mendscole (11.31) and Thomas (11.50), while L. Jackson (11.69),
Xavier Calloway (11.77), and
Kyron Gault (12.00) rounded out the field.
In the 200m, McLean again paced the group with a 22.85.
Kyle Kurtz (23.15),
Emir Jackson (23.19), Thomas (23.32), Mendscole (23.46), and
Landon Petcher (23.86) all contributed solid finishes.
The 110m hurdles featured a strong freshman trio, with
Ja'mar Smith placing ninth in 16.00, followed by
Johan Arends (16.46) and
Ethan Fisher (16.60). Fisher also competed in the 400m hurdles, finishing 12th in 58.37.
In the 400m, Randolph placed two inside the top 12, led by E. Jackson (50.65) and
Christian Humes (50.79). Petcher (52.72),
Benjamin Bublitz (53.31),
Jacob Johnson (53.56), and
Christopher Wills (54.85) added depth.
In the 800m,
Ariel Huseni recorded a time of 2:10.55. The 5000m saw
Edward Koroma lead the WildCats with a 17:14.63, while
Mason Williams followed in 18:00.36.
Xavier Calloway placed eighth (6.17m), while
Ashton Jackson (5.99m) and Gault (5.94m) added additional efforts in the long jump. In the championship long jump, Smith placed 10th with a jump of 6.30m.
Thomas also placed seventh in the triple jump (13.28m), with Smith (12.41m), Calloway (12.27m), and
Ashton Jackson (11.36m) contributing.
In the pole vault,
Jayden Watkins cleared 4.40m to finish sixth, while
Peyton Jackson placed 11th (3.65m).
Xavier White led the throws group in both the discus (34.87m, 114-05) and hammer throw (42.16m, 138-04).
Julio Alvarenga followed in discus (33.94m, 111-04) and hammer (30.25m, 99-03), and also competed in the shot put (11.56m, 37-11.25). White added a mark of 11.30m (37-01.00) in the shot put.
In the javelin, Watkins placed 12th with a throw of 46.27m (151-09).
The team heads to High Point University for the VertKlasse meeting on April 2-3.
