LYNCHBURG, Va.- The Randolph women's tennis team hosted Roanoke on Monday afternoon in an ODAC matchup. The WildCats defeated the Maroons 6-1.
The WildCats improve to 7-2 overall on the season and are 2-1 in conference play.
The Maroons led 1-0 after the completion of doubles competition. Rachel Combs (Benbrook, Texas/Homeschool) and Amy Rigg (Charlottesville, Va./The Covenant School) won at second doubles 6-3.
In the singles portion, Mikayla Smith (Pittsville, Md./Parkside HS) won 6-3, 6-3 against Raygan Wade at third singles. Rigg was a straight set winner over Morgan Tobey at fifth singles. Fleur Gaalman (Abcoude, Utrecht, Netherlands Haarlemmermeer Lyceum Dalton) took down Lia Streibich 6-1, 6-1 at second singles. Combs needed a super tiebreaker in her match with Bella Gustafson. Gustafson won the first set 6-3 while Combs took the second set 6-4 and 1-0 (10-7) in the third set. Sophia Cahue (Aurora, IL/Metea Valley HS) defeated Victoria Rios 6-1, 6-4 at fourth singles. Maddie Mills (Fredericksburg, Va./Rivebend) was a 6-3, 7-5 winner over Camryn Breedlove at sixth singles.
Randolph is back in action on Friday as it hosts Randolph-Macon. The match begins at 4:30 p.m.
