SWANNANOA, N.C.- The Randolph men's lacrosse team faced Warren Wilson in a non-conference game on Wednesday afternoon. The WildCats broke open the game in the third quarter as they would go on to defeat the Owls 11-7.
The first quarter was scoreless until 2:37 remained when Jordan Nutter (Fredericksburg, Va./Courtland HS) scored on a man-up opportunity to give the WildCats a 1-0 lead. Warren Wilson knotted it up 1-1 at 1:24.
The Owls went ahead 2-1 in the second quarter 38 seconds into the period. Randolph then scored three straight times to go ahead 4-2 with 10:36 showing on the game clock. The Owls tallied one more goal with just under six minutes to play in the quarter as Randolph went into halftime with a 4-3 lead.
The 'Cats broke the game open in the third as they scored five straight times to go up 9-3. Warren Wilson scored a late goal with four seconds remaining to make the score 9-4.
The Owls tallied their fifth goal of the game at 12:48 of the fourth quarter. Randolph pulled out further ahead with two more scores to lead 11-5. Warren Wilson scored once with 3:19 left and again with time expiring to make it an 11-7 contest.
Randolph led in total shots 43-33. Groundballs favored the Owls 45-41. The WildCats were 3-for-5 on extra-main opportunities.
Noah Callahan (Bristow, Va./Brentsville District HS) led the WildCats with three goals on the day. He also picked up three groundballs and was 8-of-11 on faceoffs. Chase Callan (Fredericksburg, Va.) had a six-point performance with two goals scored and four assists. He picked up six groundballs. Jacob Bucceri (Spotsylvania, Va./Caroline HS) scored twice and assisted on one score. Parker Eastman (Ruther Glen, Va./Riverbend), Josh Parker (Fort Moore, Ga./North Stafford HS), and Nutter all scored once. Cooper Callan (Fredericksburg, Va.) had a goal and assist.
On the defensive side, Kalon Ross (Landover, Md./Central HS) caused five turnovers and came up with six groundballs. Keegan Slider (Saluda, Va./Christchurch School) had 12 saves in the cage for the WildCats.
Randolph begins ODAC play on Saturday when it travels to Averett. Game time will be at 1:00 p.m.
