MONTGOMERY, AL - The Randolph College women's wrestling team went to Alabama to open the new year at the Red Lady Duals. The WildCats posted a win of 25-18 over the host school, Huntingdon; however fell to 1-44 Presbyterian, 10-36 Mount Olive, and tied 25-25 with Schreiner, but lost the tie-breaker.
Chloe Simmons set the tone early at 103, securing a fall at 5:07 to give the Wildcats an early boost. After back-to-back decision losses at 110 and 117, Randolph answered at 124 as
Kylie Brigman pinned Chloe Parets in just 2:28 to swing momentum back in Randolph's favor.
Stephanie Noel added a dominant 7-0 decision at 138, while
Emily Riopel delivered one of the most commanding performances of the match with a 10-0 technical fall at 160. Randolph closed out the dual with a forfeit win at 207 from L.J. Peters, sealing the Wildcats' 25-18.
Randolph battled Schreiner University to a 25-25 draw in Round 4, but ultimately fell on the tiebreaker, with Schreiner earning the decision based on total falls (5-3). The Wildcats came out strong early, as Simmons opened the dual with a fall at 4:58 at 103, followed by another pin from Jennings at 110 in just 2:32. Randolph continued to build momentum with back-to-back forfeit wins at 117 and 124 from
Ayden Schultz and Brigman, respectively.
Schreiner responded with a run of falls to swing the dual, starting at 131 and continuing through 138. Randolph briefly regained ground at 145, where Noel recorded a fall at 3:41, but Schreiner closed the match with three more pins at 160, 180, and 207. Despite the even score, Schreiner's five falls edged Randolph's three in the tiebreaker, handing the Wildcats a narrow defeat.
The team will stay in Alabama as they compete in the Red Lady Open on Sunday.
