Records Fall, WildCats Impress at Finn Pincus Invitational

SALEM, Va. - Randolph men's track & field put together a strong all-around showing at the Finn Pincus Invitational hosted by Roanoke College this weekend.

First-year Ja'Mar Smith led the way on the track, advancing through prelims and semifinals in the 60 meters before placing third overall in the final with a time of 7.03. Smith also clocked a 7.02 in prelims, a mark that ranks No. 77 in Division III, and later added a big performance in the long jump.

Randolph showed impressive depth in the 60m, with Jeff Mendscole, Savion Thomas, James McLean, Immanuel Williams, Leander Jackson, and Jahlil Weekes all advancing out of prelims. Thomas, Williams, and Weekes each recorded personal records during the rounds, while Mendscole and Thomas continued their strong form into the semifinals.

In the 60m hurdles, Mario Carter posted a season-best 9.00, finishing just ahead of Ethan Fisher at 9.01, giving the WildCats a solid one-two showing in the event.

Christian Humes paced Randolph in the 200m (23.93) and turned in a strong effort in the 400m, finishing sixth with a time of 53.86. Mendscole added a 23.85 in the 200m. 

In the longer races, Edward Koroma had a productive day, setting personal records in both the 1000m (2:50.21) and 3000m (9:53.47). Jacob Johnson and Aiden Bartulis competed in the 600m with Johnson in 1:31.80 and Bartulis in 1:35.27 and also competed in the 1000m alongside Koroma.


Smith capped off his day with a standout performance in the long jump, placing fifth with a leap of 6.89m (22-7.25), a mark that ranks No. 37 in Division III and is a new school record. Thomas and Kyron Gault also placed inside the top 15, while Ashton Jackson recorded a personal-best 6.15m.

Jayden Watkins delivered a highlight of the meet by winning the pole vault, clearing 4.55m (14-11.00). He was joined by Peyton Jackson and Ashton Jackson, who both finished inside the top six.

In the triple jump, Thomas continued his impressive campaign with a PR of 13.44m, ranking No. 68 in Division III, while Carter followed closely with a season-best 13.39m, good for No. 79 nationally. Xavier Calloway also added a personal best in the event.

Xavier White represented Randolph well in the throws, finishing 17th in the shot put and placing seventh in the weight throw with a season-best 14.15m.
