Men’s Basketball Falls to EMU in Return to Home Court

LYNCHBURG, Va.- The Randolph men's basketball team returned to Giles Gymnasium for the first time in 2026 as the WildCats hosted Eastern Mennonite on Saturday. The Royals got out to a big lead to start the first half and never trailed as they defeated the 'Cats 75-60

Both teams' overall records are 4-9. The Royals record their first ODAC win and are now 1-3 in the conference while Randolph is 0-4.

EMU started the game on a 10-0 run in just over three and a half minutes of game time. Trey Miller (Virginia Beach, Va./Green Run HS) put Randolph on the board with a three-point basket at 16:45 but the Royals continued to add to their lead as they got out in front 37-9 with just under six minutes left in the period. The WildCats would rally as they would cut their deficit down to 12 points, 38-26, going into the locker room at halftime.

A Viktor Parson (Chesapeake, Va./Western Branch) jumper to start the second half closed the WildCats to 10 points just under a minute in. The Royals built their lead back up to 18 points with an eight-point run. Randolph still continued to edge its way in as it chipped away further at its deficit as it was an 11-point game, 55-44, with 10:20 left to play. The WildCats could not get any closer as EMU stayed out in front for the remainder of the period.

The WildCats finished the game shooting 20-of-54 (37%) from the floor and were 3-of-17 (17.6%) in three-point baskets. EMU shot 50% from the field in both the first and second halves and were an overall 7-of-12 (58.3%) from behind the three-point arc. EMU controlled the glass 41-26.  Randolph did outscore the Royals 21-13 in points off turnovers and 30-14 in bench points.

Miller led the WildCats with 15 points on 6-of-12 shooting and added six rebounds and two blocked shots. Elijah Cox (Galax, Va./Carroll County) scored 13 points to go with six rebounds and two assists. Aveion Tucker (Newport News, Va./Woodside HS) chipped in eight points and dished out six assists. Parson finished with nine points, three assists, two rebounds, and two steals.

Randolph goes back on the road as it travels to Averett on Wednesday. Game time will be at 5:00 p.m.
