LYNCHBURG, Va.- The Randolph men's tennis team hosted Southern Virginia on Friday afternoon in the WildCats' first match of the fall season. The 'Cats defeated the Knights 7-0.
Randolph won all three of its doubles matches to start 1-0. Jacob Martin (Wadebridge Cornwall, Great Britain Callywith College) and Andreas Mulner (Brasnov, Romania) defeated Mason Pitcher and Tracen Karrach 6-2 at first doubles. Carlos Haupt (Weston, Fla./FLVS) and Vincenzo Marchese teamed up to defeated Trent McBride and Trajen Kingston 6-3 at second doubles. Aksel Tinnes-Rimehaug (Oslo, Norway) and Jason Duval (Kingston, Jamaica) were 6-4 winners over Mateo Molanphy and Jacob Feldman at third doubles.
Mulner was a 6-2, 6-1 winner at first singles over Pitcher. Martin took down Karrach 6-1, 6-1 at second singles. Marchese won 6-1, 6-0 over McBride at third singles. Tinnes-Rimehaug won 6-2, 6-0 at fourth singles. Haupt defeated Feldman 6-1, 6-3 at fifth singles. Duval needed a super tiebreaker in his match against Molanphy at sixth singles. Duval dropped the first set 7-5. He went on to take the second set 6-4 and the tiebreaker 1-0 (10-7).
