GILBERT, Ariz.- The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) announced Scholar-Athletes and All-Academic Teams in Division III men's and women's tennis on Wednesday. Both of Randolph's tennis teams were both named All-Academic. The women's team were represented by Emma Bauer (Munich Germany), Fleur Gaalman (Abcoude, Utrecht, Netherlands Haarlemmermeer Lyceum Dalton), Lena Kersten (Bonn, Germany/Otto Kuhne Schule), Lize van Veen (Harderwijk, The Netherlands RSG Slingerbos), and Maddie Mills (Fredericksburg, Va./Riverbend) and the men by Carlos Haupt (Weston, Fla./FLVS), Ondra Pelda (Prague, Czech Republic), Lukas Rathgeb (Koln, Germany Apostelgymnasium), Vincenzo Marchese, and Andreas Mulner (Brasnov, Romania) as Scholar-Athletes.
Bauer, Gaalman, Kersten, van Veen, and Mills are among 1,269 Division III women's student-athletes named an ITA Scholar-Athlete, and the team as a whole was one of 165 women's tennis programs awarded the All-Academic Team distinction. Haupt, Pelda, Rathgeb, Marchese, and Mulner were among 1,115 Division III men's student-athletes named an ITA Scholar-Athlete, and the team was of 135 men's tennis programs awarded the All-Academic Team distinction.
To be named an ITA Scholar-Athlete, one must have a grade point average of at least 3.5 (on a 4.00 scale) for the current academic year and be listed on the institutional eligibility form. To be named an ITA All-Academic Team, programs must have a team grade point average of 3.2 or above (on a 4.00 scale), all student-athletes included should be listed on the institutional eligibility form, and all varsity letter winners should be factored into the cumulative team GPA for the current academic year.
Bauer is a Sport and Exercise Studies major, Kersten is majoring in Psychology and Mills is a Creative Writing major. Haupt is majoring in Sport and Exercise Studies as is Mulner. Pelda and Marchese are both Business majors. Rathgeb is majoring in Robotics Mechatronics.
