Three WildCats Selected to VaSID Women’s Tennis All-State Team

LYNCHBURG, Va.- The Virginia Sports Information Directors released its All-State Team in Women's Tennis on Tuesday afternoon. Lena Kersten (Bonn, Germany/Otto Kuhne Schule) was named to the First Team in singles and was also named to First Team in doubles along with Lize van Veen (Harderwijk, The Netherlands RSG Slingerbos). Fleur Gaalman (Abcoude, Utrecht, Netherlands Haarlemmermeer Lyceum Dalton) was named to the Second Team for singles.

This is Kersten's second straight selection to the First Team after being named to the First Team and Rookie of the Year in 2024. Her and Van Veen's doubles selection marks the first for Randolph since Keyu Jin and Aubrey Hawn were named to the Second Team in 2017. The three selections overall are the most ever for the WildCats.

Kersten was 19-4 in 2025 playing at first singles as she matched her single season wins total from last year. She went 9-1 in ODAC play with her lone loss coming to Washington and Lee's Allie Murrell in a super tiebreaker. Her only other setbacks came to regionally ranked players from Mary Washington and Christopher Newport. She won both of her singles matches in the ODAC Tournament as she helped the team advance to the ODAC semifinals.

Kersten and Van Veen were 17-4 overall as a pair and went undefeated at first doubles in the ODAC at 9-0 which was a first for the program. Their only losses this spring were to UMW and a regionally and nationally ranked doubles pair from the CNU. Kersten's 18 overall doubles victories (she was 1-0 paired with Gaalman) are a new single season program record while Van Veen's 17 wins are second-most.

Gaalman was second on the team in singles wins as she went 14-6 overall. She was 5-2 in ODAC matches. Gaalman was 7-5 playing at second singles and 4-0 at third singles.
