The Randolph women's tennis team will make its first appearance in the ODAC Tournament since 2019 as the WildCats travel to Sweet Briar on Tuesday. Randolph is the sixth seed and the Vixens are the third seed. The match will be at 2:30 p.m.
Â
How They Got Here:Â Â Randolph went 9-8 overall in the regular season and 6-4 in ODAC play. The WildCats and Shenandoah tied for fifth place They played each other during the regular season, but their outing was not part of the ODAC unbalanced scheduling, rendering that result not eligible for tiebreaker consideration. The next two steps in the conference's process -- the ODAC Five-Point Tiebreaker and top-down comparison, both employing a function of common opponents -- did not break the stalemate. That left drawn lots determined before the 2024-25 season began to break the tie. Shenandoah owns the top-lot in the sport, awarding the Hornets the fifth seeded in the tournament. Randolph, owners of the #11 lot, will play as the sixth seed. Sweet Briar finished the regular season 14-6 overall and 8-2 in ODAC play.
The Series: The two teams will be meeting for the 58th time overall in a series that dates back to 1971 prior to the formation of the ODAC. The Vixens lead 39-17-1.
Last Time:Â The two schools met a week ago on Randolph's court. Sweet Briar won the match 4-3. The WildCats took three singles matches and #4 singles was the deciding point with Sweet Briar's Maggie Minton defeating Randolph's Emma Bauer 6-2, 3-6, 6-3.
In the ODAC Tournament: Randolph is making its 12th ODAC Tournament appearance since the current tournament format was adopted in 2007 and are 3-17 in tournament matches. Sweet Briar has qualified for the Tournament 10 times outside of 2020 when the season was cut short by the COVID-19 pandemic. The Vixens have advanced the Championship match in 2021, 2022, and 2023 and won the ODAC title in 1990. The two schools have met once in the Tournament back in 2008 which the Vixens won 5-0.

Fleur Gaalman had a solid first year campaign with a 13-5 overall record and 5-1 record in ODAC play. She has gone 6-4 at #2 and 4-0 at the #3 position.
