Box Score VIRGINIA BEACH, Va.- The Randolph women's tennis team was back on the court on Saturday as it faced Virginia Wesleyan in an ODAC match. The Marlins defeated the WildCats 5-2.
Randolph's record falls to 9-6 overall and 6-2 in the conference.
The WildCats led 1-0 after doubles play. Lena Kersten (Bonn, Germany/Otto Kuhne Schule) and Lize van Veen (Harderwijk, The Netherlands RSG Slingerbos) won 6-3 over Turva Flink and Jette Haferman at first doubles. Fleur Gaalman (Abcoude, Utrecht, Netherlands Haarlemmermeer Lyceum Dalton) and Emma Bauer (Munich, Germany) won their second doubles match 6-1 over Mikisha Thomas and Zoe Vliegen.
Kersten defeated Flink 6-2, 6-1 at first singles. Gaalman went to three sets aginst Vliegen at second singles. Vliegen took the first set 6-1 while Gaalman was a 6-1 winner in the second set. Vliegen won the third set 6-3. Van Veen also went to three sets in her third singles match with Lina Hackner. Hackner won the first set 6-4 with van Veen taking the second set 6-3 and Hacker taking the match with a 6-0 win in the third set.
Randolph returns home to host Sweet Briar in its regular season home finale on Wednesday. The match begins at 2:00 p.m.
