VIRGINIA BEACH, VA.- The Randolph men's lacrosse team made the trip to the East Coast on Saturday as the WildCats faced Virginia Wesleyan in ODAC play. Michael Baldwin (Culpepper, Va./Liberty HS) scored six times for the 'Cats but it was not enough as the Marlins won 17-8.
VWU led 3-0 in the first quarter. Baldwin scored the first of his goals with 3:39 remaining in the period to make it 3-1. The Marlins scored twice more to go up 5-1 at the conclusion of the opening quarter.
The Virginia Wesleyan lead grew to 6-1 with 11:29 remaining in the second quarter. Chase Callan's (Fredericksburg, Va.) goal made it a 6-2 contest. The Marlins scored once more to put the score at 7-2 at halftime.
VWU netted seven straight goals in the third quarter to expand its lead to 14-2 with 2:20 left in the period. Baldwin's second goal made it 14-3 with 2:13 left. The WildCats scored three more times to start the fourth quarter to make it 14-6. The team would go on to alternate goals as the Marlins came out with the win.
Callan finished with two points (1g, 1a) on the night. Noah Callahan (Bristow, Va./Brentsville District HS) had one goal. Ethan Caldwell (Santa Fe, N.M./Santa Fe Prep School) and Leyton Brightly (Spotsylvania, Va./James Monroe) both had two assists each.
Adam Ulffers (Greenville, N.C./J.H. Rose HS) stopped 19 shots in the cage for the 'Cats. He led the team in groundballs with 15.
Randolph returns to WildCat Stadium to host Guilford on Wednesday. Game time will be at 4:00 p.m.
