Men’s Lacrosse Drops Road Contest to Oglethorpe

ATLANTA, Ga.- The Randolph men's lacrosse team went on the road Sunday to Oglethorpe to take on the Stormy Petrels. The WildCats rallied in the fourth quarter but fell short in the end as they fell 14-9.

Oglethorpe led 2-0 10:48 into the first quarter. The WildCats got on the board with just over seven minutes left in the period on a Britton Malcolm solo score. The Stormy Petrels moved ahead 3-1 until Leyton Brightly (Spotsylvania, Va./James Monroe) made it 3-2 with under a minute remaining. Oglethorpe tallied another score with 18 ticks left to lead 4-2 at the end of the opening period.

Oglethorpe scored four times in the second quarter to pull ahead 8-2 at halftime. In the third quarter, the 'Cats closed their gap with a pair of goals to halve the deficit to four goals, 8-4, with just under eight minutes to play in the period. The Stormy Petrels ended the quarter with a 3-0 run to lead 11-4.

The Stormy Petrels took control of the opening faceoff of the fourth quarter and scored 37 seconds in to lead 12-4. Randolph scored the first of three straight goals with ten and a half minutes left in the contest scoring again at 8:42 and 6:05 to make the score 12-7. The teams then exchanged goals with the WildCats scoring last with 2:49 remaining to make it 14-9. Randolph could not get a shot on goal for the rest of the quarter as Oglethorpe hung on for the victory.

Noah Callahan (Bristow, Va./Brentsville District HS) netted a hat trick for Randolph to lead the team. Brightly scored twice and added two assists. Nathan Pradachith (Alexandria, Va./Edison Hs) scored once as did Josh Parker (Fort Moore, Ga./North Stafford HS). Shane Smith (Annandale, Va./Falls Church HS) tallied a goal and an assist. Ethan Caldwell (Santa Fe, N.M./Santa Fe Prep School) dished out two assists.

Brightly led the WildCats with 10 groundballs. Pradachith had six groundball pickups and was 6-of-13 on faceoffs. Parker was 6-of-9 with five groundballs and Callahan 3-for-4.

In his first action of the season, goalie Adam Ulffers (Greenville, N.C./J.H. Rose HS) had 11 saves and five groundballs in 30 minutes in the cage. Jake Hanna (Powhatan, Va./Powhatan HS) stopped eight shots and Keegan Slider (Saluda, Va./Christchurch School) four shots.

Randolph travels to William Peace on Wednesday. Game time will be at 1:00 p.m.
