Men’s Lacrosse Falls to Juniata at WildCat Stadium

LYNCHBURG, Va.- The Randolph men's lacrosse team hosted Juniata in a non-conference contest at a windy WildCat Stadium on Sunday afternoon. The Eagles defeated the WildCats 16-10.

Juniata led 2-0 with two goals scored 38 seconds apart in the first quarter. Noah Callahan (Bristow, Va./Brentsville District) got the WildCats on the board first at 11:47 and goals by Leyton Brightly (Spotsylvania, Va./James Monroe) and Michael Baldwin (Culpepper, Va./Liberty HS) put Randolph on top 3-2 with under four minutes remaining in the opening period. JC tacked on three more goals to lead 5-3 at the conclusion of the quarter.

The Eagles outscored the 'Cats 7-2 in the second quarter to go ahead 12-5 at halftime. Randolph closed its deficit to five goals with goals by Callahan and Baldwin to put the score at 12-7 with 2:29 remaining in the third quarter. The WildCat defense held the Eagles off the scoreboard until four seconds remaining in the period.

Randolph tried to rally again as it started the fourth quarter with two straight goals by Brightly to make it a 13-9 game with 8:36 remaining on the clock. Juniata pulled further ahead with three straight scores to increase its lead to 16-9 with 3:07 left. Baldwin ended the scoring with four second left on a goal assisted by Brightly.

Baldwin had a six-point day for the WildCats with his four goals and two assists. Brightly netted a hat trick and also had two assists. He had a team-high seven groundball pickups. Callahan also finished with a hat trick and added an assist.

Adam Ulffers (Greenville, N.C./J.H Rose HS) started in the cage and had 16 saves in the first half. He was replaced by Jake Hanna (Powhatan, Va./Powhatan HS) and he stopped eight shots. Keegan Slider (Saluda, Va./Christchurch School) came in for the last 5:02 of the fourth quarter and made two saves.

Randolph is home again on Wednesday when it hosts Averett. Game time will be at 4:00 p.m.
