GREENSBORO, N.C. - The Randolph College men's swimming team traveled down to Greensboro for a double dual meet against Greensboro College and Columbia College (S.C.) on Saturday afternoon. The WildCats swept the meet with a 151-18 win over the Pride and a 146-56 win over the Koalas.
The meet opened with the 200-yard medley relay in which Randolph swam two teams. The A team of
Katelyn Spuchesi,
Taylor Eshelman,
Kaitlyn Heckman, and
Rio Bucy finished in first place with a time of 2:05.97. The B team of
Taylor-Paige Kitts,
Maddie Dyl,
Alaura Arringdale, and
Katie Scifres placed third in 2:27.62.
Kaitya Zaitsev and Scifres claimed first and second place in the 1000 yard free with Zaitsev time being 12:47.28 and Scifres in 12:59.13. Bucy and Dyl were the only two to swim the 200 yard free. Bucy touched the wall first in 2:17.64 and Dyl, second, in 2:35.91.
The 100-yard back saw Heckman get second in 1:10.58 and Kitts in fourth with a 1:22.72. Arringdale came out on top in a two-women race that was tight in the 100-yard breast with a time of 1:21.22 just over a second faster than her opponent. Spuchesi, also a duo race in the 200-yard fly, came in second with a time of 2:30.37.
Spuchesi bounced back in the 50-yard free to finish over six seconds ahead of the second place finisher in 27.65. Eshelman took second in the 100-yard free in 59.13. Another Randolph swim-off in the 200-yard back where Bucy got first in 2:35.32 and Kitts in second with 2:51.27 as the only two swimmers to compete.
In the 200-yard breast, Arringdale was second in 2:59.21 and Dyl got third in 3:20.53. Zaitsev and Scifres once again only faced each other in the 500-yard free. It was close, but Zaitsev got there first in 6:17.37 and Scifres in second in 6:17.58. Heckman was first in the 100-yard fly in 1:07.25.
In the 200-yard IM, Eshelman came out on top in 2:31.83. Closing out the meet, was the 200-yard free relay. Randolph had two team compete, where the A team (Heckman, Bucy, Spuchesi, and Eshelman) placed first in 1:51.58 and the B team (Arringdale, Scifres, Zaitsev, and Kitts) placed third in 2:08.81.
The WildCats are back in the pool when the team travels to Hampton, Va. for the Yellow Jacket Invitational hosted by Randolph-Macon from Nov. 21-23.
