Men’s Basketball Drops Exhibition to Old Dominion

Viktor Parson scored eight points against ODU

NORFOLK, Va.- The Randolph men's basketball team hit the hardwood for the first time in the new season as they faced Old Dominion University in an exhibition on Thursday night. The Monarchs defeated the WildCats 93-53.

ODU got out to a 7-1 lead in the first half. Randolph closed to within four points at 9-5. After trailing 12-5, three-point baskets by TJ James Jr. (Virginia Beach, Va./Salem HS) and Viktor Parson (Chesapeake, Va./Western Branch) brought the WildCats to within one possession at 14-11. A 14-5 run by ODU, however, put the home team up 28-16 with 6:30 left on the clock. The WildCats came back with a 7-0 run to get to within five points, 33-28, with 4:52 left in the period. Old Dominion pushed ahead the rest of the half as it would lead 40-26 at the break.

Randolph started the second half with a three-point basket by Trey Miller (Virginia Beach, Va./Green Run HS) to pull to within 11 points just four seconds into the period. The Monaches then went on a 17-8 run that spanned just over six minutes of game time to lead by 20 points as they pulled away from the WildCats.

Miller finished with a team-high 16 points and nine rebounds. Parsons and James both had eight points each.

The WildCats host North Carolina Wesleyan next Saturday in their home opener. Game time from Giles Gymnasium is at 2:00 p.m.
