Men’s Wrestling Competes at Mount Union Invitational

Tyler Balint led Randolph with 12 points and finished seventh in his weight class

ALLIANCE, OH. - The Randolph men's wrestling team began its season on Saturday as the WildCats competed at the Mount Union Invitational. The WildCats finished 12th out of 14 teams with a total of 31.5 points.

The top points earner on the day for the 'Cats was Tyler Balint (Harrisonburg, Va./Turner Ashby HS) who totaled 12 points and placed seventh in the 184-weight class. Balint won by fall over Colton Webster in 1:35 in the first round and then lost to Patrick Jackson from Gannon University by fall in 2:44. In the consolation round, Balint won by fall over Hayden Berry of Hiram and by tech fall against Alex Drees from John Carroll. Balint lost in the fifth round to Matthew Gummere from Case Western by fall in a time of 4:45. In the seventh-place match, Balint won by decision over Troy McClelland from Seton Hill 5-4.

Competing in his first collegiate matches, Matthew Garland (Lynchburg, Va./Heritage HS) placed seventh in the 157 A weight class with 10.5 points. In the second round, Garland won by decision over Ryan Yocum from St. Vincent 10-5. Garland lost in the Quarterfinals to Nico Taddy from West Liberty by tech fall. Garland won by fall in the consolation round over Ryan Foster from Ohio Northern in just over four minutes time (4:03). Garland ended his day with a medical forfeit win in the seventh-place match over Braxton Miller from West Liberty.

Leviathan Haynes scored three points for Randolph in the 174-weight class. His lone win came in the consolation second round as he scored a fall over Rylan Haney from Ohio Northern in 33 seconds.

Adon Overstreet (Lynchburg, Va./Heritage HS) scored 2.5 points on the day. He had a tech fall over Jacob Kandis from Point Park in the 157 B weight class. Zak Gurban (Dumfries, Va.) also picked up 2.5 points. He won by tech fall in the first round of the 133-weight class over Joseph Comaduron from Southern Virginia.

Adrian Fox (Forest City, N.C./Chase HS) scored one point in the 141-weight class. He won in sudden victory over Brett Klim from St. Vincent in the first round of consolation and won by decision over Karson Davis from Ohio Northern in the second round.
