Women's Swimming Splits Home Double Dual Meet

LYNCHBURG, Va. - The Randolph College women's team turned in a split performance in their double dual meet against St. Mary's College of Maryland and ODAC opponent, Virginia Wesleyan University. The team defeated VWU with a score of 103-79 and fell to St. Mary's (Md.) 65-136. 

The WildCats opened the meet with fourth-place finish from Kaitlyn Heckman in the 1650-yard freestyle with a time of 21:27.35. Katie Scifres followed suit in 22:02.23 in fifth-place and Maddie Dyl finished sixth in 23:11.16.

In the 200-yard freestyle, Katelyn Spuchesi swam a 2:07.44 to finish first in the event. Reaghan Quinn came through in sixth place with a time of 2:29.24.

The 50-yard freestyle sprint event was led by Taylor Eshelman's third-place finish with a time of 26.87. She was joined by Abby Ward who clocked an even 28 seconds, and Dyl at 33.30.

Alaura Arringdale led the WildCats in the 400-yard IM with a third-place finish of 5:43.72. Eshelman followed in 5:53.15 and Heckman in 6:01.22.

Rio Bucy and Scifres competed in the 200-yard butterfly with Bucy coming third at 2:56.76 and Scifres right behind in 3:04.87.

In the 100-yard freestyle, Spuchesi took third in 57.59, followed by Eshelman in 1:00.36, Ward in 1:04.51, and Quinn in 1:06.22.

In the 200-yard backstroke, Heckman posted a time of 2:36.65 for third place and Arringdale placed sixth in 2:48.48.

Another top performance from the WildCat was in the 500-yard freestyle in which Spuchesi swam to a first-place finish in 5:58.05. Bucy came in third with a time of 6:02.44.

In the 200-yard breaststroke, Arringdale took fourth in 2:58.76. She was followed by Quinn in 3:15.60 (5th) and Dyl in 3:20.68 (6th). 

The WildCats closed out the meet with a strong effort in the 200-yard freestyle relay. The team of Scifres, Ward, Taylor-Paige Kitts, and Bucy earned third place with a time of 2:03.35.
