Men's Swimming Splits Home Double Dual Meet

LYNCHBURG, Va. - The Randolph College men's team turned in a split performance in their double dual meet against St. Mary's College of Maryland and ODAC opponent, Virginia Wesleyan University. The team defeated VWU with a score of 115-79 and fell to St. Mary's (Md.) 74-130. 

The WildCats opened the meet with a fifth-place in the 200-yard medley relay, as the team of Marshall Howard, Will Perrow, Aiden Tuck, and Solomon Lewis touched the wall in 1:56.53.

In the distance events, Evan Shopbell turned in a first-place finish in commanding fashion with a time of 17:49.83, finishing just over 19 seconds ahead of the next swimmer. Mason Williams came in at 25:06.63 in fifth and Conner Fulcher followed in sixth at 25:35.52.

In the 200-yard freestyle, Milo Fagan swam a 1:52.87 to claim second-place in a gritty performance. Lewis finished fifth in 2:06.07.

The 50-yard freestyle saw Josh Vogl go 23.26 for a third-place finish. Fulcher competed and swam a time of 28.77. 

Ben Hiss brought in a top performance in the 400-yard IM with a time of 4:44.03, over 16 seconds ahead of the second-place swimmer. Perrow placed third with a time of 5:13.31 and Tuck finished fifth with a time of 5:25.51.

Shopbell posted a runner-up performance in the 200-yard butterfly in 2:08.68 and Tuck came in at 2:36.75 in fourth place.

Another second-place finish for Fagan came in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 51.41. Vogl came in sixth in 52.15. 

In the 200-yard backstroke, Howard took second in 2:10.95, and Williams came in at 2:56.07.

Shopbell posted a time of 5:08.97 for a second-place finish in the 500-yard freestyle, while Howard finished fourth in 5:34.70 and Williams came in at 7:09.00.

In the 200-yard breaststroke, Hiss turned in a time of 2:22.74 for second-place, Perrow in 2:55.58, and Fulcher in 3:32.46.

The team closed out the meet with a gritty performance in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a fourth place finish. The team of Fagan, Lewis, Hiss, and Vogl swam a time of 1:35.30.
