Men's Swimming Sweeps in Tri-Meet Home Opener

LYNCHBURG, Va. - The Randolph College swimming team hosted their season home opener on Saturday afternoon. The men's team faced off against William Peace and Gallaudet, in which, the WildCats swept both with scores of 133 points over William Peace(53 points) and 149 points over Gallaudet (18 points).

Opening the meet was the 200 yard medley relay. Marshall Howard, Ben Hiss, Channing Scott, and Evan Shopbell finished first overall in a time of 1:44.10. It was all WildCat swimmers in the 1650 yard free. Solomon Lewis finished first in 20:54.27, Mason Williams right behind in 25:38.83 and Conner Fulcher rounding out the squad in 26:39.56. 

The 200 yard free was claimed by Milo Fagan in 1:53.93 and Howard came in third with a 1:58.08. The fastest race in the pool saw Joshua Vogl finish second in 23 seconds flat and Fulcher finish fourth in 30.43.

Shopbell and Tuck swam the 400 yard IM. Shopbell finished first in 4:38.18 and Tuck finished right behind in 5:27.31. The 100 yard fly duo of Hiss and Scott claimed first and second place. Hiss coming in at 57.37 and Scott coming in at 59.12. 

Fagan came in first in the 100 yard free in 51.07 and Vogl came in fourth in 52.25. In the 100 yard backstroke, Howard finished first in 59.92, the only competitor to go under a minute at this meet. Tuck finished third in 1:10.55.

In the 500 yard free, Shopbell came out on top in 5:16.81 and Will Perrow finished fourth in 6:45.07. Hiss and Scott once again finished top-2 in the 100 yard breaststroke, Hiss going 1:03.07 and Scott going 1:12.93. Perrow swam into fourth with a time of 1:21.37.

Closing out the meet was the 200 yard free relay. Randolph, Fagan, Vogl, Fulcher, and Lewis, faced off against William Peace and finished first in 1:39.86.

The WildCats will take about two weeks off before they return to the pool on Oct. 25 at 1 p.m. to face ODAC opponent, Virginia Wesleyan, and non-conference opponent, St. Mary's College of Maryland.
