BRIDGEWATER, Va.- The Randolph men's basketball team faced Bridgewater in an ODAC road contest on Wednesday evening. The Eagles defeated the WildCats by the score of 75-63.
BC led in the opening minutes of the first half but the WildCats came back to knot the game at 9-all at the under 17-minute mark. The Eagles pushed ahead and led by as much as 12 points, 30-18, with 4:48 showing on the game clock. Back-to-back three-point baskets by Elijah Cox (Galax, Va./Carroll County) and Jordan Phillips-McLoyd (Johnson City, Tenn./Science Hill) cut the Bridgewater lead to six points, 30-24, with 3:24 left until halftime. BC would go on to lead by nine points, 34-25, at the break.
Bridgewater's 12-4 run in the first few minutes of the second half increased their advantage to 17 points, 50-33. Randolph countered with a huge 17-2 run that cut the Eagle lead down to two points, 52-50, with 9:22 remaining in the game. BC forged ahead but the 'Cats were able to keep their deficit to within two possessions. Randolph got to within three points, 65-62, with 2:42 left. The Eagles would pull away in the end with a 10-1 run in the final 2:28 as the BC defense held Randolph without a field goal.
Randolph finished 23-of-59 (39%) overall and were 9-of-30 (30%) from behind the three-point arc. The WildCats had a slight 42-41 edge in rebounds.
Rayvon Graham (Lynchburg, Va./E.C. Glass) led the 'Cats with 11 points. Cox added nine points. Phillips-McLoyd and Amari Gorham (Yorktown, Va./Yorktown) both finished with eight points each.
The WildCats return home to host Eastern Mennonite on Saturday. Game time will be at 2:00 p.m.
