Box Score LYNCHBURG, Va.- The Randolph women's tennis team had its first official competition of the fall season as it hosted the WildCat Invitational on Saturday. Fellow ODAC schools Bridgewater, Lynchburg, and Shenandoah competed.
In the first round of doubles, Lena Kersten and Lize van Veen defeated Tanea Spurill and Olivia Guzzo from Shenandoah 6-1. Fleur Gaalman and Emma Bauer held off Shenandoah's Emily Hatseras and Erin Talko 7-5. Maddie Mills and Gianna Cabrera won 6-1 over the pair of Devon Wichael and Kira Doyne from Bridgewater. Sabrina Dickerson and Noura Elkhansa lost a close match to Raea Crabill and Emma Staton from Bridgewater 7-6 (8-6).
In the second round of doubles play, Gaalman and Bauer beat Bridgewater's Sarah Slagle and Jolexie Whetzel 6-1. Dickerson and Elkhansa dropped another close decision, 7-6 (7-4), to Allison Cherwien & Leigha Montrief from Shenandoah. Lynchburg's Elizabeth Horine and Reese McAtee beat Mills and Cabrera 6-2.
In the first round of singles play, Kersten won 7-5, 6-0 over Spurill. Van Veen was a 6-3, 6-3 winner over Guzzo. Gaalman went to a super tiebreaker with Hasteras and was able to come away with a 6-7 (6-8), 6-2, 1-0 (10-4) victory. Cabrera won 6-2, 6-0 over Lynchburg's East. Bauer dropped a super tiebreaker decision to Hatseras 1-6, 6-2, 1-0 (10-7).
The second round of singles play saw Elkhansa beat Shenandoah's Gillettte 6-4 4-6 1-0 (10-3). Mills beat the Eagles' Wichael 6-3 6-4. Dickerson won over BC's Staton 6-4 6-2
The WildCats will compete at the ITA Regionals next weekend in Fredericksburg.
