Men’s Lacrosse Topped by Virginia Wesleyan

LYNCHBURG, Va- The Randolph men's lacrosse team hosted Virginia Wesleyan on Saturday afternoon at Wildcat Stadium. The Marlins pulled away from the WildCats with a third quarter push as they won 20-9.

Randolph led 1-0 with 9:35 remaining in the first quarter on a solo shot by Chase Callan (Fredericksburg, Va./Massaponax). The Marlins scored three straight times to go up 3-1 with 1:42 left. Callan scored again off an assist by Ethan Caldwell (Santa Fe, NM/Santa Fe Prep School) with 19 seconds left to make it a 3-2 game.

Off the faceoff to start the second quarter, Nathan Pradachith (Alexandria, Va./Edison) took it in himself to even the contest at 3-3 less than a minute into the period. Virginia Wesleyan rattled off four straight goals to go up 7-3. Callan's third goal of the afternoon at 10:06 closed the 'Cats to within three scores at 7-4. It would be a 9-5 Virginia Wesleyan lead at the break.

The Marlins scored six straight times to start off the third quarter and break away from the WildCats. Randolph ended the VWU goal spurt with a solo goal by Michael Baldwin (Culpepper, Va./Liberty HS) at the 8:26 mark. A little more than three minutes after, Baldwin assisted Bruce Patterson (Fork Union, Va./Fork Union Military Academy) to make it a 15-7 contest. That would be as close as it would get as Virginia Wesleyan outscored Randolph 10-2 the rest of the way.

Callan netted a hat trick for the WildCats. Baldwin also had three goals to go with one assist. Pradachith scored twice and picked up five groundballs. Patterson finished with one goal and two assists. Caldwell tallied a pair of assists.

Adam Ulffers (Greenville, N.C./J.H. Rose HS) made 24 saves in the cage for the WildCats.

Randolph hosts Shenandoah next Friday April 5 at 4:00 p.m.
