LYNCHBURG, Va.- The Randolph men's basketball team played its final game of the season as it hosted Virginia Wesleyan in an ODAC contest on Saturday afternoon. The Marlins won by the score of 72-52.
It was an 8-7 game with under 14 minutes to play in the first half. The Marlins went ahead 12-7 but the WildCats went on a 9-3 run to go ahead 16-15 with 8:15 showing on the game clock. A 9-0 VWU run staked the visitors to a 24-16 lead with 6:24 on the clock. The Marlins would lead 33-24 at halftime.
Virgnia Wesleyan started the second half on a 14-4 run to go up 47-28 with 15:30 remaining to play in regulation. Randolph closed to within 12 points but the Marlins forged ahead to lead by 17 points, 52-35, with 11:31 remaining to play. The WildCats were able to bring their deficit down to 10 points, 58-48, with 6:01 remaining. The Marlins used a 14-4 run to close out the game and come away with the victory.
Randolph shot 20-of-48 (41.7%) from the field and 5-of-16 (31.3%) from behind the three-point arc. Virginia Wesleyan was 26-of-51 (51%) overall and 8-of-21 (38.1%) in three-point attempts.
Playing in his final game as a WildCat, Danny Bickey (Beckley, W.V./Woodrow Wilson) led with 15 points and dished out three assists. Another Wildcat playing in his last game, Ty Clingerman (Front Royal, Va./Skyline HS) added eight points and two assists. Cole Perry (Salisbury, N.C./Jesse Carson) finished with eight points and a team-high 10 rebounds.
Both Bickey and Clingerman were recognized before the game.
Randolph finishes its season with a final record of 9-16 overall and a 3-13 mark in the ODAC.
