DANVILLE, Va.- The Randolph men's wrestling team competed at the Cougar Open hosted by Averett University on Saturday. The WildCats fell to Ferrum 56-0, Huntingdon College 33-19, Wilmington College 37-14. Lincoln Memorial, 25-22, and the host Cougars 37-10.
Against the Hawks, Justin Porter (Lynchburg, Va.) scored a 6-2 decision over Nicolas Nguyen at 125 weight class. Zak Gurban (Dumfries, Va.) and Noah Williams (Lynchburg, Va./E.C. Glass) both picked up forfeit wins. Adon Oversteet (Lynchburg, Va./Heritage HS) had a major decision victory, 15-3, over Seth Deperro at the 149-weight class.
In the Wilmington match, Porter took down Andre Lewis in 29 seconds to give Randolph six points. Gurban notched a 22-16 decision against Jason Louiso at the 133-weight class to notch three points for the 'Cats. Theodore Piluso (Troutville, Va./Lord Botetourt) had a 14-6 major decision over Quintez Pratt at the 165-weight class.
Against the Rail Splitters, Randolph had forfeit wins at 197, 125, and 285 weight classes. Piluso scored a major decision victory, 16-8, against Julian Smith at 165.
In the final match of the day against Averett, Porter defeated Dominic Poscoe by technical fall in 5:27. Piluso also had tech fall of Lee New in just over four minutes.
The WildCats will compete at the Chocolate Duals hosted by Messiah University next Saturday.
