LYNCHBURG, Va.- The Randolph men's basketball hosted it first game of the season on Saturday afternoon as it took on William Peace at Giles Gymnasium. The WildCats were too much for the Pacers as they led from beginning to end in winning by the score of 85-46.
The WildCats improve to 3-0 on the season for the first time since 2015-16.
Randolph jumped on the Pacers to begin the first half as it raced out to 16-0 lead. William Peace's first point came on a free throw by Shawn Jones with just under 14 minutes remaining in the first half. The Pacers didn't score their first field goal until 9:23 was left as Parker Hodgson made a three-point basket. The Pacers made just 5-of-31 (16.13%) of their overall shots in the first half. The WildCats had a commanding 42-15 lead at halftime.
Second half scoring was in Randolph's favor 43-31. The WildCats stayed consistent in their shot making as they made just over 41% in both the first and second halves overall.
The 'Cats had sizable advantages in points off turnovers (20-7), second chance points (17-2), points in the paint (40-18), and bench points (46-32). Randolph dominated on the boards 56-33.
Jordan Phillips-McLoyd (Johnson City, Tenn./Science Hill) had a double-double effort of 14 points and 12 rebounds. Landon Wagoner (Martinsville, Va./Carlisle School) added 11 points and five rebounds. Timothy James Jr. (Virginia Beach, Va./Salem HS) scored 10 points. Maurice Davis (Richmond, Va./James River) tallied eight points and eight rebounds. Cole Perry (Salisbury, N.C./Jesse Carson HS) finished with seven points and seven rebounds.
Randolph travels to Roanoke on Tuesday for its first ODAC game of the season. Game time from Salem will be at 5:00 p.m.
