Men’s Tennis Hosts Fall Invitational

Jason Duval and Carlos Haupt won both of their doubles matches on Sunday

LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Randolph men's tennis team hosted their Fall Invitational on Sunday afternoon. The WildCats competed against Shenandoah, Methodist, and Pfeiffer.

The WildCats had a successful day in doubles play as they took six of eight contested matches. Jacob Martin (Wadebridge Cornwall, Great Britain Callywith College) and Ondra Pelda (Prague, Czech Republic) defeated Mathis Dessureau and Bendikt Pfeffer 7-5. Martin and Pelda would go to defeat Artem Babaiev and Dominick Suwak 6-3.

Andreas Mulner (Brasnov, Romania) and Vincenzo Marchese knocked off the pair of Cameron Roth and Christian Tihanovich from Methodist 6-1. Mulner and Marchese dropped a 6-1 decision to Keith Orr and Shine Tokas 6-1.

Jason Duval (Kingston, Jamaica) and Carlos Haupt (Weston, Fla./FLVS) were 7-5 winners over Bogdan Stan and Ameno Morgan. Duval and Haupt then defeated Martin Kuehnelt and Neal Love 6-4.

Dev Mani (Bangalore, India St. Claret PU College) and Lukas Rathgeb (Koln, Germany Apostelgymnasium) won 6-4 over Brady Mendler and William Johnston. Mani and Rathgeb were then bested by Aryanth Chintharlapalli and Max Arkans 6-2.

In the singles portion, Martin defeated Harry Crokam from Methodist 6-2, 7-5. Martin then fell to Suwak 6-1, 1-0 and retired due to injury. Mulner held off Pfeiffer 6-3, 6-1 and then lost to Babaiev 6-3, 6-4. Marchese defeated Kane 6-0, 6-2 and fell to Tokas 6-3, 6-1. Pelda lost his first match to Stan 6-2, 6-1 and came back to defeat Tihanovich 6-3, 6-0.

Duval was a 6-4, 6-2 winner over Roth in his singles match. He went three sets against Kuehnelt but lost 6-2, 1-6, 1-0 (10-3). Haupt was a 6-1, 6-3 winner over Ameno Morgan from Pfeiffer and then lost a super tiebreaker to Neal Love from Shenandoah 6-3, 3-6, 1-0 (10-6). Rathgeb won 6-3, 6-2 over Brady Mendler from Pfieffer and then fell to Arkans 6-3, 6-1. Mani won 6-2, 6-3 over Justin Giesbrecht from Pfeiffer 6-2, 6-3.
