LYNCHBURG, Va.- For the first time since 2018, the Randolph softball team has qualified for the ODAC Tournament. The WildCats travel to Randolph-Macon where they will face the Yellow Jackets at 1:30 p.m. on Friday.
How they Got Here: Randolph is the seventh seed. Randolph-Macon tied with Roanoke but because of tiebreakers, the Maroons are seeded first and the Yellow Jackets second. The WildCats and 'Jackets are in Pod #2 along with third seeded Virginia Wesleyan and sixth seeded Bridgewater.
Last Meeting: The two teams played in Ashland on April 16. Both games were decided by a run with Randolph-Macon winning 2-1 in eight innings in the first game and 5-4 in the second game. The first game was scoreless through seven innings. Randolph scored once in the top of the eighth to lead 1-0 but the Jackets responded with two runs in the bottom portion of the inning to win. Randolph trailed 5-0 in the second game before rallying to come up a run short in the end.
The WildCats:
Taryn Campbell leads the team with a .452 batting average in 62 at-bats.
Dominique Irving is hitting .382 and has 52 hits which are second in the ODAC.
Jenna McDermott is slugging a team-best .500 with 31 runs scored and 21 RBI. She also has a team-high six doubles.
Delaney Nuckols has swiped 16 bases. In the circle,
Jenna St. John has a team-low 2.60 ERA.
Emily Morris leads in strikeouts with 40 and has held opponents to a .201 batting average.
Olesia Walch has pitched a team-high 78.1 innings and he seven wins are tied with Morris. She also has two saves to her credit.
The Yellowjackets: Randolph-Macon has the highest team batting average in the conference at .327 and the most hits with 359. Riley Baughn is second in the conference with 44 RBI and is tied for second in homeruns with seven. She sits in third place in hits with 50. Amanda Lanyon has scored an ODAC-best 39 runs. Naomi Sadler has stolen 37 bases. Gracie Ellis' 1.07 ERA is a conference low while her 16 wins are tied with Baughn. She has struck out 168 batters. Baughn's ERA sits at 1.51.
ODACÂ Tournament History: Since first qualifying in 2009, Randolph has a 6-20 record in the tournament. The WildCats' last win came in 2011 when the team advanced to the championship game. Randolph-Macon is 21-24 and won the title in 2015. The two teams had met five times with the Yellowjackets winning all five contests. The last meeting took place in 2018 in Salem, Va. with Randolph-Macon prevailing 3-0.
