Softball Drops Doubleheader to Roanoke in Regular Season Finale

TROUTVILLE, Va.- The Randolph softball team wrapped up its regular season on Tuesday as the WildCats took on Roanoke at the Botetourt Sports Complex. The Maroons won both games of the doubleheader by scores of 3-1 and 2-0.

In the first game, the WildCats trailed 2-0 after the first inning. In the Randolph sixth inning, Delaney Nuckols (Rockville, Va./Patrick Henry) walked to lead off. After Kylie Stark (Lynchburg, Va./Brookville) popped out, Brooke Rolocut (King George, Va./King George) grounded out to move Nuckols to second. Jenna McDermott (Townsend, Del./Middletown) then singled up the middle to score Nuckols to put the 'Cats on the board.  Randolph went down 1-2-3 in the seventh inning to end the game.

Starting pitcher Jenna St. John (Concord, Va./Appomattox) went six innings in the circle for Randolph. She allowed three runs (one earned) on four hits and walked two.
McDermott was 1-for-2 with a RBI. Rolocut went 1-for-3 with a stolen base.

In the second game, all of Roanoke's runs came in the first inning. From the second inning on, starting pitcher Paige Scruggs (Cowpens, S.C./Chesnee) held the Maroons scoreless. With runners on second and third in the third inning, Scruggs induced two straight fly outs to end the inning. She got help from the defense in the fourth inning. With a runner on second base, a fielder's choice got the runner out at third. Rachel Sirbaugh was then caught stealing third to end the inning.

Randolph's defense also came up big in the fifth inning. With two outs, Adriana Rivera doubled and moved to third on a throwing error. Scruggs was able to get Kate Houle to ground out to the end the threat.

Dominique Irving (Amherst, Va./Amherst County) finished 2-for-3. Lacey Lucado (Buchanan, Va./James River) and Kieran Wrigher (Glen Allen, Va.) were both 1-for-2 Charlize Taylor went 1-for-3.
