LYNCHBURG, Va.- The Randolph men's lacrosse team hosted Averett on Wednesday evening at WildCat Stadium. The Cougars won by the score of 15-4.
Averett scored the game's first goal just over two minutes into the first quarter. The score remained 1-0 for almost 11 minutes of game time until 2:45 remained in the period as the Cougars led 2-0 at the conclusion of the period.
The Cougar lead was 4-0 in the second period. Randolph scored at the 10:06 mark as
Nathan Filipiak (Christiansburg, Va./Christiansburg) assisted
Michael Baldwin (Culpepper, Va./Liberty). AU led 7-1 at halftime.
Averett led in total shots 37-27. Randolph had a 28-13 advantage in groundballs.
Baldwin finished with two points on the night (1g, 1a).
Bruce Patterson (Fork Union, Va./Fork Union Military Academy) also had two points (1g, 1a).
Ethan Caldwell (Santa Fe, N.M./Santa Fe Prep School) and
Leyton Brightly (Spotsylvania, Va./James Monroe) had Randolph's two other scores.
Filipiak and
Nick Pietro (Spotsylvania, Va./Massaponax) both had a team-high six groundball pickups. Pietro also caused two turnovers.
Tom Stahler (Cape May Court House, NJ/Middle Township) finished with five groundballs.
Adam Ullffers (Greenville, N.C./J.H. Rose HS) stopped nine shots in goal for the 'Cats.
Randolph travels to Shenandoah on Saturday. Game time from Winchester is at 1:00 p.m.
