Men’s Tennis Defeats Bridgewater 5-4 for First Time in Program History

Nicolas Alvarado and Dev Mani won 8-4 at first doubles
Box Score BRIDGEWATER, Va.- The Randolph men's tennis team played Bridgewater in an ODAC match on Wednesday afternoon. The decision came down to the last singles match on the court where the WildCats came out on top as they defeated the Eagles 5-4.

For Randolph, it is the first ever win over Bridgewater in program history in the 13th meeting between the two schools. The WildCats improve to 3-7 overall and 1-3 in the ODAC.

The WildCats took one match in doubles play. The pair of Nicolas Alvarado (Santiago, Chile/Colegio Olimpo) and Dev Mani (Bangladore, India/St. Claret PU College) defeated Gabe Elder and Mark Gordon 8-4 at first doubles. Max Karrass (Ratingen, Germany/Theodor-Heuss Gymnasium) and Noah Carney (Charleston, W.V./Homeschool) were edged out by the duo of Bryce Cline and Ryan Briggman 8-6 at third doubles.

In the singles portion, Alvarado won 6-2, 6-1 over Elder at #1. Mani was a 6-0, 6-4 victor over Matthew Leonard at #2. He has won five matches in a row and seven of his last eight. Jose Merhej (Fairfax, Va./Oakton) went to a super tiebreaker against Cline at fourth singles. Cline won the first set 6-4 with Merhej taking the second set 6-3. In the third set, Merhej won easily 6-1.

The match came down to Karrass and Briggman at fifth singles. Karrass was able to edge out Briggman 7-6 in the first set while Briggman won 6-4 in the second. Karrass took the third set 6-3 to clinch the match for the WildCats.

Randolph is idle until April when it hosts Shenandoah. Match time is at 1:00 p.m.
