LYNCHBURG, Va.- The Randolph women's swimming hosted its first tri-meet of the season as the WildCats welcomed Gallaudet and Greensboro to the Bateman Aquatic Center on Saturday. The WildCats had solid performances throughout as they topped the Bison 185-44 and the Pride 169-52.
Katelyn Spuchesi (King George, Va./King George HS) had three first place finishes on the afternoon for the WildCats. She placed first in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:07.63. She touched the wall first in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:09.20. Spuchesi also was first in the 500-yard freestyle with her time of 5:53.70.
Ava Skinner (Lynchburg, Va./Brookville) won the 50-yard breaststroke in 36.81. She was the first to touch the wall in the 100 breaststroke with a final time of 1:26.35.
Taylor Eshelman (Huntersville, N.C./Hopewell) was the fastest time in the 100-yard freestyle with her time of 1:04.00 which was just ahead of Skinner's 1:04.80. Eshelman also won the 50-yard butterfly in a time of 31.59.
Lexee Schellhammer (Edinburg, Va./Sherando HS) took first in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 26.87. Eshelman was right behind her at 26.94.
In the relays, the team of Schellhammer, Skinner, Spuchesi, and Eshelman were first with a time of 2:01.45 in the 200-yard medley relay. The 200-yard freestyle relay squad of Katya Zeitsev, Kai Miller (Richmond, Va.), Molly McNair (New South Wales, Australia/Figtree), and Katie Scifres (Colorado Springs, Colo.) came in second with a collective time of 2:06.17.
Randolph will travel to Virginia Wesleyan next Saturday for a tri-meet with the Marlins and St. Mary's College of Maryland. The meet begins at 1:00 p.m.
