Women’s Swimming Hosts Sweet Briar and Hollins

LYNCHBURG, Va.- The Randolph women's swimming team hosted a tri-meet with Sweet Briar and Hollins on Friday evening at the Bateman Aquatic Center. The WildCats won 156-73 over the Vixens and 169-60 over Hollins.

Lexee Schellhammer (Edinburg, Va./Sherando) and Katelyn Spuchesi (King George, Va./King George) both won three events each on the night. Schellhammer came in first in the 50 yard backstroke in 30.29, the 50 yard freestyle in 26.94, and the 100 yard backstroke in 1:04.70. Spuchesi was the top finisher in the 500-yard freestyle in 5:47.05, the 200-yard IM in 2:29.42, and the 200 yard freestyle in 2:07.48 which was a new personal best for her.

Ava Skinner (Lynchburg, Va./Brookville) was the first to touch the wall in the 50-yard breaststroke with her time of 36.12. Skinner was also first in the 100-yard breaststroke in a time of 1:20.82.

Taylor Eshelman (Huntersville, N.C./Hopewell) also won a pair of events. She was the top finisher in the 100-yard freestyle with her time of 1:03.59. Eshelman swam a time of 31.05 for first place in the 50-yard butterfly.

The 200-yard medley relay team of Schellhammer, Skinner, Kai Miller (Richmond, Va.), and Maddie Dyl (Spotsylvania, Va./Courtland) came out on top with their time of 2:11.17. In the 400 yard  freestyle relay, the quartet of Skinner, Katie Scifres (Colorado Springs, Colo.), Eshelman and Spuchesi had a top time of 4:17.89.

The WildCats will compete against Bridgewater next Friday. The meet begins at 4:30 p.m.
