Men’s Swimming Splits Tri-Meet at Virginia Wesleyan

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va.- The Randolph men's swimming team competed against host Virginia Wesleyan and St. Mary's College of Maryland on Saturday afternoon. The WildCats topped the Marlins 132-65 and were bested by the Seahawks 122-73.

The WildCats had two first-place finishers on the day. Ben Hiss (Forest, Va./Jefferson Forest) took first in the 1000-yard freestyle with a time of 11:06.80. He was also fifth in the 100-yard breaststroke with his time of 1:08.29 and second in the 500-yard freestyle in 5:31.60.

Evan Shopbell was the other WildCat to come in first in an event.  Shopbell swam the 200 IM in 2:06.35. Sam Hey (Black Mountain, N.C.) was second in a time of 2:15.96. Aiden Tuck (Lynchburg, Va./Brookville) placed fourth with his time of 2:26.33. Shopbell came in fourth in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 51.59 and had a third place finish of 1:53.91 in the 200 yard freestyle.

The 200-freestyle relay team of Bennett Goodman Appomattox, Va./Appomattox County HS), Ethan Mayfield (Evington, Va./Brookville), Solomon Lewis (Forest, Va./Brookville), and Hiss were first in a time of 1:38.44. The 200-medley relay team of Shopbell, Hey, Jackson Hunt, and Daniel Allee (Alexandria, Va./Jacksonville Lighthouse Charter School) came in second in a time of 1:46.45.

The WildCats will host Hampden-Sydney on October 27. Start time for the meet is at 6:00 p.m.
