Women’s Lacrosse Falls to Virginia Wesleyan

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va.- The Randolph women's lacrosse team traveled to Virginia Wesleyan on Saturday to face the Marlins, VWU would win by the score of 21-6.

The WildCats drops to 2-5 overall and 0-2 in the conference. The Marlins improve to 6-5 overall and 2-0 in league play.

The Marlins scored the game's first goal to lead 1-0 32 seconds into the opening quarter. The WildCats scored the equalizer at 12:28 as Yanessa Cabrera (Manassas, Va./Stonewall Jackson) assisted Maddie Friel (Suffolk, Va./Nansemond River) on the goal. Virginia Wesleyan added six more goals in the period to lead 7-1.

The 'Cats scored 45 seconds into the second quarter on a free position goal by Beverly Alcock (Purcellville, Va.) to make it 7-2. Virginia Wesleyan would outscore Randolph 6-1 in the quarter to lead 13-3 at halftime. The Marlins outscored the WildCats 8-2 in the second half.

Alcock and Friel both scored twice for the 'Cats. Friel picked up three groundballs as did Thao Ho (Chicago, Ill). Cristina Berenguer (Barcelona, Spain) and Olivia Richards (Limestone, Tenn./Pinecrest) both tallied a goal each. Richards won five draws.

Taylor Batty (Hampton, Va./Kecoughtan) had 18 saves in the cage. She also picked up six groundballs.

Randolph hosts Guilford on Wednesday night at WildCat Stadium. Game time is at 6:00 p.m.
