Men’s Lacrosse Edged Out by Ferrum 9-7 in Home Finale

LYNCHBURG, Va.- The Randolph men's lacrosse team hosted its final game of the season on Saturday as the WildCats took on Ferrum. It was tight game from start to finish but the Panthers came out on the winning end as they defeated Randolph 9-7.

The WildCats led 2-0 in the first quarter on back-to-back goals by Zach Miller (Corpus Christi, Texas/Fork Union Military Academy). Ferrum would even the game up at 2-2 with a pair of scores.

The Panthers took the lead 3-2 with a goal just 45 seconds into the second quarter and then tallied their fourth of the game 10 seconds later. The 'Cats closed to within one as Jack Dolan (Dumfries, Va./Potomac) scored with just under 13 minutes remaining in the period. The two teams would exchange goals as Ferrum held a slim 6-5 lead at halftime.

The third quarter saw both teams turn the ball over as the offenses stalled. Ferrum finally got one through near the midpoint of the quarter and then added another score with 4:49 left to go ahead 8-5. A Sean Landis (Williamsburg, Va./Lafayette) solo goal with just under three minutes remaining in the quarter made it 8-6.

Randolph again closed to within one goal as Tom Stahler (Cape May Court House, N.J./Middle Township) assisted Miller on his third goal of the game at the 10:40 mark of the fourth quarter. The Panther scored to lead 9-7 with 6:30 remaining. The WildCats had two shots in the final 2:07 toward the net but were both turned away.

Ferrum led in total shots 32-28 and in groundball pickups 16-15.

Miller had the hat trick for the WildCats. Landis scored twice. Dolan and Ethan Caldwell (Santa Fe. N.M./Santa Fe Prep School) both had one goal each.

CJ Berry (Fredericksburg, Va./Massaponax) and Kent Snoddy (Palmyra, Va./Fluvanna County) both caused two turnovers. Stahler, Kyle Grundy (Warrenton, Va./Kettle Run), and Nick Pietro (Spotsylvania, Va./Massaponax) all had three groundballs.
