LYNCHBURG, Va.- The Randolph men's lacrosse team hosted Virginia Wesleyan on Wednesday afternoon at WildCat Stadium. The Marlins won by the score of 22-7.
Randolph scored the first goal of the game at 13:30 as Ethan Caldwell (Santa Fe, N.M./Santa Fe Prep School) assisted Jack Dolan (Dumfries, Va./Potomac). The Marlins scored five straight times to lead 5-1. Caldwell scored off an assist by Leyton Brightly (Spotsylvania, Va./James Monroe) to cut it to 5-2 with just under seven minutes remaining in the period. VWU would go on to lead 9-2 at the end of the quarter.
The WildCats would not score again until 6:18 remained in the third quarter as Tom Stahler (Cape May Court House, NJ/Middle Township) assisted Caldwell. Randolph did end the game scoring three straight times with goals by Sean Landis (Williamsburg, Va./Lafayette) and Dolan.
The Marlins led in in total shots 45-28 and in groundballs 34-28.
Caldwell had a three-point afternoon for the WildCats (2g,1a). Landis and Dolan both scored twice. Michael Baldwin (Culpepper, Va./Liberty) scored once.
Kyle Grundy (Warrenton, Va.//Kettle Run) had a team-high six groundballs and also caused three turnovers. Chad Melton (Midlothian, Va./Trinity Episcopal) picked up five groundballs. Colin Murphy (Cedar Park, Texas/Austin) caused a team-high four turnovers. William Olichney (Lynchburg, Va.) stopped 12 shots in goal.
Randolph travels to Guilford this Saturday. Game time will be at 4:00 p.m.
