LYNCHBURG, Va.- The Randolph women's lacrosse team hosted West Virginia Wesleyan in a non-conference game on Saturday afternoon at a windy and cold WildCat Stadium. The Bobcats would defeated the WildCats 15-7.
Randolph drops to 2-3 overall. The Bobcats improve to 2-3.
West Virginia Wesleyan led 3-0 with just under eight minutes remaining in the first quarter. Randolph got on the board on a Sophia Cirone (Stuart, Fla./South Fork HS) unassisted goal with 3:01 remaining in the period. The Bobcats added one more goal in the period to lead 4-1.
West Virginia Wesleyan led 8-2 with 5:47 to play in the second quarter. The WildCats were able to halve their deficit as Olivia Richards (Limestone, Tenn./Pinecrest (N.C.) and Cirone scored to make it 8-4 at halftime.
The Bobcats led by seven goals, 13-6, with 10:19 remaining in the fourth quarter. Richards' goal at 9:47 made it 13-7. The Bobcats would score the last two goals of the game to complete the scoring on the day.
The Bobcats had a narrow advantage in total shots 29-28 and shots on goal 25-22.
Cirone had four goals on the day for the WildCats. She also picked up two groundballs, won two draws, and caused three turnovers. Richards scored three times. She won four draws and caused one turnover.
Taylor Batty (Hampton, Va./Kecoughtan) had 10 saves in goal for the 'Cats. She led in groundballs with four. Marcela Izquierdo-Poza (Madrid, Spain/IES Julio Verne) had three groundball pickups.
Randolph is idle until April 6 when they begin conference play at home against Ferrum. Game time will be at 7:00 p.m.
