LYNCHBURG, Va.- The Randolph men's basketball had its home finale on Saturday afternoon as it hosted Washington and Lee on Senior Day. The Generals led from the onset as they defeated the WildCats 88-61.
The Generals led 10-2 early in the first quarter but the WildCats cut into their deficit as they went on a 10-4 run to get to within two points, 14-12, with 14:22 remaining in the period. A 25-10 run by the Generals gave the visitors a 39-22 lead with 3:15 remaining in the half. Randolph was able to close the deficit to 10 points as the half ended with a CJ Loving (Madison Heights, Va./Amherst County) heave from beyond half court as the score stood at 41-31 at the break.
W&L started the second half on 14-4 run to jump ahead 55-36 with 13:43 showing on the game clock. The WildCats closed to 17 points at 9:23 after a three-point basket by Jordan Phillips-McLoyd (Johnson City, Tenn./Science Hill) but a 17-8 run by the Generals was too much for the WildCats to overcome in the end.
Randolph shot 25-of-68 (36.8%) from the floor and was 8-of-34 (23.5%) in three-point attempts. The WildCats led 38-28 in bench points and 12-8 in second chance points. Washington and Lee had a slight advantage in points in the paint 32-30.
Loving scored 12 points for Randolph on 5-of-9 shooting. He added two rebounds, two assists, and two steals. Phillips-McLoyd chipped in nine points and five rebounds. Danny Bickey (Beckley, W.V./Woodrow Wilson) contributed eight points and two rebounds. Cole Perry (Salisbury, N.C./Jesse Carson HS) was the team's leading rebounder with eight boards.
Randolph concludes its season with a final record of 6-18 overall and 3-13 in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference.
The game was the final one for seniors Loving, Blan Hodges (Hiddenite, N.C./Alexander Central), Evan Makle (Dumfries, Va./Christ Chapel Academy), and MJ Patterson (Prospect, Va./Cumberland HS).
