Women's Swimming Returns to the pool at Virginia Wesleyan

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va – The Randolph women's swimming team traveled to Virginia Beach to take on Virginia Wesleyan University in an ODAC dual meet on Saturday.  The Marlins bested the Wildcats 183.5-60.5. 

Bryana Smith (Williamsburg, Va./Lafayette) won the 100 yard butterfly with a time of 1:06.55.  Smith also finished on top in the 100 yard IM, finishing with a time of 1:08.63.  Smith swam the 50 yard butterfly in 29.27, placing second.

Eva Pontius (Lynchburg, Va.) finished second in the 500 yard freestyle, touching the wall in 5:59.87.  Pontius also touched second in the 50 yard backstroke (33.30), with Madeline Freshour (South Boston, Va./Halifax) and Hannah Cloven (Fredericksburg, Va.) coming in at 37.94 and 42.17 in the event.  Pontius also finished third in the 200 yard freestyle (2:18.14), as Cloven finished with a time of 2:56.64. 

Ava Skinner (Lynchburg, Va./Brookville) placed second in the 50 yard breaststroke with a time of 36.51, as Jasmine Beck (Manassas, Va.) came in with a time of 43.42.  In the 100 breaststroke, Skinner finished second with a time of 1:22.43, while Beck finished in 1:41.14.  Skinner earned a third-place finish in the 50 free, finishing in 30.13 seconds, with Freshour finishing with a time of 35.66.  Freshour also finished the 100 yard backstroke in 1:28.17.  In the 100 yard freestyle, Skinner touched third with a time of 1:16.15 and Cloven finished in 1:19.67.

The team of Pontius, Skinner, Smith, and Freshour placed second in the 200 yard medley relay with a time of 2:11.49.

The Wildcats host their line meet of the season next Friday, January 21 at home against Ferrum College.
