LYNCHBURG, Va.- The Randolph women's lacrosse team hosted Bridgewater on Friday afternoon at WildCat Stadium. The Eagles broke open a close game early in the first half with a big run on their way to a 20-5 victory over the 'Cats.
Bridgewater scored the game's first goal 11 seconds in and the two teams then exchanged scores. Randolph tied it at 3-3 with 19:10 remaining in the half on a Sarah Perry (Rocky Mount, Va./Franklin County) man-up score. BC scored 12 straight times to lead 15-3 at the break.
The Eagles scored twice early in the second half to up their lead to 17-3. Randolph was finally able to break its scoring drought with back-to-back goals by Sophia Cirone (Stuart, Fla./South Fork) to make it 17-5. Bridgewater scored three more times to complete the scoring in the game.
Cirone had the hat trick for the 'Cats with three goals on the afternoon. Perry tallied one score and two assists. Olivia Richards (Limestone, Tenn./Pinecrest N.C.) had Randolph's other goal.
Cirone won seven draw controls and picked up three groundballs. Perry won five draw controls and caused three turnovers. Kimberlee Barton (Fredericksburg, Va./Chancellor) had eight saves.
Randolph hosts Eastern Mennonite next Wednesday at WildCat Stadium. Game time will be at 6:00 p.m.
