Top Three Singles Win for Men’s Tennis at Lynchburg

Bhuvan Ambekallu won at third singles 4-6, 7-6, 6-4

LYNCHBURG, Va.- Two days after the women's team faced the Hornets of Lynchburg, it was the men's turn on Sunday afternoon. The WildCats took three singles matches on the day but the Hornets came out with the overall win 6-3.

There were two competitive doubles matches. Nico Alvarado (Santiago, Chile/Colegio Olimpo) and Colby Cook (Smithfield, Va./Smithfield) took six games in their match against Lynchburg's Colton Mullins and Oliver but fell 8-6. First doubles of Alex Kulvivat (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park) and Bhuvan Ambekallu (Karnataka, India/Bethany High) was 8-4 in favor of the Hornets' Daniel Christian and Carter McCleary.

Alvardo had an easy go of it at first singles as he handled Mullins 6-1, 6-1. Kulvivat's second singles match with Christian was tight but Kulvivat was able to come away with a 7-6, 7-6 win. Ambekallu went three sets with McCleary and was a 4-6, 7-6, 6-4 victor at third singles. Cook fell 6-0, 6-1 at fourth singles and Ramiro Chavez-Montoya (Roseland, Va./Nelson County HS) lost 8-0 at fifth singles.

The WildCats return to the Randolph courts on Tuesday as they host Washington and Lee. The match will start at 3:00 p.m.
