CARY, N.C.- The Randolph men's lacrosse team played its final non-conference game of the season on Saturday night as the WildCats took on William Peace. The Pacers won by the final score of 13-3.
William Peace led 8-0 early in the third quarter. Lee Tookes (Chester, Va./Thomas Dale) got the WildCats on the board with 7:33 remaining in the period. Matthew Piascik (Midlothian, Va./Trinity Episcopal School) scored with 1:25 to play in the quarter to make it a 9-2 contest.
The 'Cats had a little momentum going into the fourth quarter. 40 seconds in, Zach Miller (Louisa, Va./Fork Union Military Academy) passed off to Jake Helsey (Midlothian, Va./Trinity Episcopal) for the goal and Randolph closed to within six goals at 9-3. That would be as close as the WildCats would get as the Pacers scored four straight times to end the game.
William Doyle (Louisville, Ky./Louisville Collegiate) played all of one second in the game and finished with 15 saves. He also picked up five groundballs.
Miller had a team-high seven groundballs on the evening. He was 2-of-3 on faceoffs. Nick Pietro (Spotsylvania, Va./Massaponax) picked up five groundballs and caused three turnovers. Tom Stahler (Cape Court House, NJ/Middle Township) and Jeff Watson (Manassas, Va./Forest Park) both had four groundball pickups with Watson adding two caused turnovers.
The WildCats return to ODAC play next Saturday as they host Hampden-Sydney at WildCat Stadium. Game time will be at 1:00 p.m.
